Arsenal’s recent performance has given them a boost in the title race. The Gunners now sit top of the Premier League table, with a one-point gap over second-placed Manchester City. On Wednesday, Arsenal and Manchester City were due to face each other in the Premier League. The Gunners have won four of their five league games so far, while City have won only once – against Liverpool. The match between the two teams had been scheduled to take place at the Emirates Stadium, but it has been postponed due to the Europa League fixture.
The Premier League’s schedulers had a difficult time fitting the two games around the six-week World Cup break. The game between the two sides may, however, be played on a midweek date, possibly in January 2023. It is also worth noting that Manchester City and Arsenal have ongoing commitments in the Europa League and Champions League.
With a win, Manchester City would move 11 points clear at the top of the table. The Gunners were beaten 5-0 by City in August. However, they have since bounced back and are currently on a five-game winning streak.
Premier League – Tottenham
Arsenal and Tottenham are the two top clubs in the Premier League. Both have started the season well. Arsenal’s impressive start ended with a 3-1 defeat at Manchester United, but they showed no sign of stage fright in the North London derby against Tottenham. Thomas Partey’s early goal gave Arsenal the lead.
Tottenham Hotspur have a record of winning at the Emirates Stadium. In the last 17 meetings between the two teams, the visitors have won 17 times and drawn one. This is a result of both teams relying on their attacking prowess. Tottenham have a record of securing victory in the final minutes of games.
Arsenal’s 3-0 defeat to Tottenham in the previous season was a devastating blow. That result all but handed Spurs the final UEFA Champions League spot. Arsenal have a history of beating Tottenham, and this season they have made significant progress under the new manager, Mikel Arteta.
